Milan is dominated by white marble and Renaissance culture. Milan Cathedral's remarkable beauty adorns the "Piazza del Duomo", and the cathedral's interior is as beautiful as the outside. In all its grandeur, the Duomo quite rightly deserves to be Milan's main landmark. The building is just one of the city's countless magnificent buildings. Milan is only the second largest city in Italy, but leads in industry, trade and finance and is the economic centre of Italy. Nevertheless, this is not the reason for so many tourists to flock to Milan in northern Italy every year, either during their holiday in Italy or on a Milan city break.

Tourists love to go shopping in Milan, as the city of fashion is home to leading designer stores such as Prada or Armani. Directly next to the cathedral is the magnificent "Vottoirio Galleria Emanuele II". It is equipped with a glass roof and therefore provides the opportunity of shopping or visiting the stylish cafes in comfort even when the weather is bad. Those on a larger budget should definitely head for the luxury fashion street, the "Via Montenapoleone".

The two top cultural attractions in Milan are most definitely the "Tearto alla Scala Milano", one of the most famous opera houses in the world with the "Museo della Scala", and the church "Santa Maria delle Grazie" with the famous fresco of the "The Last Supper" by Leonardo Da Vinci. Although tickets must be reserved in advance, this much discussed work of art is certainly worth a visit, however short your Milan city break.

The Grand Hotel Duomo is a hotel in the centre of Milan near the Duomo, while the Ostello Bello is a cheap hostel in Milan.
