Barcelona has been popular as a weekend or city breaks since time immemorial and there is certainly plenty to do here.

Barcelona's particular flair is greatly determined by the works of the artist and architect Antoni Gaudi. The unfinished Barcelona cathedral "Sagrada Familia" and fairytale Parc Güell, which is especially popular amongst photographers, are only two of the popular Gaudi attractions in the city. Other artists such as Picasso were also inspired by the city and left their traces here.

Another highlight of the city is shopping. Barcelona's fashion is always up to date, but somewhat different, which makes it unique. Women have been known to invest their entire savings in Barcelona's shoes.

Despite Barcelona's uniqueness as a result of its artistic influences, it is nevertheless traditionally Spanish. The famous siestas are taken very seriously and respected throughout the city, la cena (dinner) is taken late in the evening so that the sunset can be enjoyed on the beach or on the Ramblas, the traditional shopping promenade.

Barcelona also has a lively nightlife and is a popular party destination. In the harbour area, there are parties to suit all tastes and these will continue all night long until the morning hours.

It should be easy enough to find a hotel in Barcelona. the Hotel 1898 on the Ramblas, and the Hotel Princess are especially popular.
