Airport Hamburg

Hamburg Airport (also called Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel Airport) is located in the city of Hamburg which is in the north of Germany. In terms of passengers numbers, Hamburg airport is at place 5 within Germany. The airport was formerly called "Hamburg Fühlsbüttel Airport" and consists of two terminals and the Airport Plaza. The Plaza houses security along with several duty-free shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. In Terminal 2 (departure level) and on level 2 and 4 in Terminal 1, there are also a number of travel agents with cheap last minute flights and holidays. Cheap flights from Hamburg are operated by the low-cost airlines German Wings, Condor and Easyjet. Popular domestic routes such as the flight Munich - Hamburg, or Stuttgart – Hamburg are offered by Lufthansa and Airberlin. Flights from London to Hamburg are for instance operated by Easyjet, British airways and Lufthansa, and the flight Hamburg-London Heathrow is in fact one of the busiest routes at the airport. Hamburg Airport is used by about 430 aircraft per day with almost 14 million passengers handled annually.

To get to and from the airport, passengers may use public transport, a private car or hire car. Terstappen, Sixt, Hertz, Europcar and Avis all have hire car offices at Terminal 2 (arrivals level). Passengers wishing to return a rental car to Hamburg airport may do so in car park P5. Hamburg Airport parking is available in the terminal car parks P1 to P5 and in the cheaper yet more distant car parks P8 and P9 (long stay parking). There are also short stay parking zones in front of the departure hall of Terminal 1 and 2. Parking fees can be paid for by credit or debit card or cash at the ticket machines in the car parks. Airport transfer is possible by bus and train via the S-Bahn station "Hamburg Airport (Flughafen)" and the bus stops outside the terminals. The S-Bahn line S1 takes about 25 minutes from the airport to Hamburg train station; bus numbers 26, 39, 274, 292 and 606 go from the airport to Hamburg's centre and other districts of Hamburg as well as surrounding towns and villages.

Passengers with particularly late arrivals or early flights can stay at one of the Hamburg airport hotels. The closest hotel to the airport is the Radisson Blu Hotel, located next to the car parks. Other hotels near Hamburg Airport are the Leonardo Hotel Hamburg Airport, or the Motel One Hamburg Airport Hotel and the Ibis Hotel Hamburg Airport, which are all south-east of the airport.
