Airport Cologne

Nearly 10 million passengers are handled annually at Cologne Airport in the south-eastern German city of Cologne. The airport's official name is  Cologne Bonn Airport and the additional name “Konrad Adenauer” was only given in the year 1994 in commemoration of the first German chancellor, who supported the civilian use of the airport after the Second World War. Until 1957, Cologne-Wahn was used only for military purposes. In the following years, Cologne airport was expanded for civilian use and new runways, terminals, a tower and car parks were built at the airport. Cologne Airport is a hub of the airline Germanwings, which operates a large number of cheap flights, for example from Cologne to Berlin-Schönefeld, Hamburg or Munich. Air Berlin also sometimes operates very cheap flights to Cologne-Bonn from Berlin-Tegel. Flights to Cologne from the UK are operated by Bmibaby, Easyjet and Germanwings, for example from London and East Midlands airport.

To reach Cologne Airport by car or taxi, follow the A59 motorway. For navigation use the address “Kennedy Road", "51147 Cologne". It is also possible to take buses (line 161 from Cologne Porz market, which is on the S-Bahn Line 7) or trains to Cologne-Bonn airport. Parking is available for more than 12,000 vehicles in car parks 1 and 2, which are located directly at Terminal 1 and 2, or in car park 3 and the open air car park north (PN) close to Terminal 2. Short stay parking is available for up to two hours in front of the arrival and departure halls. Parking fees at Cologne airport depend on the type of parking and the duration.

Car hire at Cologne Airport is provided by Avis, Europcar, Hertz or Sixt rent a car. Car hire offices and desks are open from 9 am to 9 pm and are located in Terminal D 2 (arrivals). To return your hire car please head for the car park 2 (Terminal 2).

A number of hotels are also located close to the airport. Passengers with an early departure or late arrival at Cologne airport can stay at the Holiday Inn Cologne-Bonn Airport in ne of the 177 comfortable rooms. A flight to Cologne airport can be combined with a visit to the Lanxess Arena, the Musical Dome or the many other attractions in Cologne. The carnival city on the Rhine is famous for Cologne cathedral, the great bridges over the Rhine which lend the city a Mediterranean flair especially in summer, and the football team, 1st FC Cologne.
